Customer Reviews

Customer rating is 5 of 5  Chia Obama   2010-03-08
By Richard Stack (Las Cruces)
I sent this to an Obama fan as a Christmas Present. He won't admit he made a mistake.
Customer rating is 4 of 5  The problem isn't that this is racist   2010-03-08
By Harris Elleberg (Astoria, NY)
The problem is that it might not be racist enough. I mean, this is a high quality product, completely up to the Chia standard. If anything, it might be too well made, as it is clearly the single most sophisticated piece in my extensive collection of Black Americana. This terra cotta Obama bust looks far nicer than any of the assorted lawn jockeys, salt and peppper mammies, or 1930s advertising placards that adorn my breakfast nook.

My problem is that the color of the clay makes him look Native American, while his face bears a closer resemblance to Garry Shandling and his hair looks like it came from that guy who played Welcome Back Kotter. This would be fine if I was into collecting Jewish American Americana, but I'm not.

Now, I can fix the shade with a little shoepolish, but the hair is a bigger problem. I'm no botanist, but maybe if Chia could cultivate a "nappier" sprout, it might solve a lot of these problems. If anyone has a recommendation, maybe I could order some sod or seeds off Amazon and give Obama a little makeover at home.
Customer rating is 1 of 5  Waste of money   2010-02-17
By Valerie R. Jumonville (Milton, Louisisna)
I purchased the Chia Obama as a "gag" Christmas gift for my brother. It was a waste of money. After a few days, a mold started growing on it and the seeds never sprouted and died. He had to throw it away.
Customer rating is 4 of 5  Leaky   2010-02-16
By Dwayne Russell
I read that Chia Pets leak. I bought a Spongebob for my son and the Chia Obama for my daughter. They both loved them but the Obama seemed to leak much more than the Spongebob. It grew about an inch and then died. It didn't grow as full as the picture either. It grew straight up, thin and hardly at all on the top. If I could add something to hold more moisture in, it might work better. We still like it and I'd buy it again.

Ok, it's a little corny, but it gave a lot of fun during our christmas gift exchange. He's currently hanging out on the windowsill working on his fro.
